If you go to Tugboat, make sure to try one of their own beers because it will definitely be one you won't forget. But not because it's good.. because you will wonder how it is actually possible to create beer so bad. Seriously, my first batch of home brew was ten times better than their beer.
I was hoping it was just a bad batch, but if it was, they've been on the same batch for almost two years now (or maybe that's the problem.. it's two years old!). I'm not exaggerating at all when I say that the three worst beers I've ever had were the last three I had at Tugboat. It's a real shame too, since the place is cool and they have good prices.
It's a really good thing they carry guest beers on tap. I recommend skipping straight to those.
28-May-08I carry a love/hate relationship with Tugboat. I love the atmosphere, the location, and the fact that it's tucked quietly on a small random street of downtown. I hate the fact that the beer is aweful 90% of the time. I catch myself giving the Tugboat another chance every now and then and every time I leave disappointed! Good thing Mary's is around the corner to cheer me up.
05-Jan-08The Tugboat is one of only a few breweries located downtown. While it has a great atmosphere and location, at times, they serve some of the worst beer I have ever experienced. Perhaps it's only bad on a per batch basis. I would ask for a sampler before commiting to a full pint.
