17-Aug-09$3 Lagunitas IPA pints and $4 house wine are nothing to sniff at. Outdoor seating was nice. A burger and fries is $8 on the happy hour menu but you can get a few cheaper items like foccacia&olive oil and vinegar for $2.
09-Jan-09Bastas is the kind of place where you can feel right at home. I've been to a lot of restaurants in town, but if I want to just chill, have a great meal and have a laugh with friends, Bastas is a great location. The happy hour is great. Get a bunch of small plates and just split everything. It's awesome to have a few bites here and there while drinks are coming. And if you get bored, they usually play smart movies.
Recommended.
03-Jan-09All day happy menu with good variety, good wine selection (though I think it could be changed more often for variety), atmosphere and parking.
Staff could be a bit more knowledgeable and attentive to customers. Owner does this, but needs to carry over to all the staff. I am never offered water to drink, even when I appeared with a large group and sat down at a table; I typically sit at the bar.
Again, depends on the wait staff, but this is an area which could be improved.
30-Dec-08The all day happy hour for food at Basta's is a great deal. The old happy hour used to be $3 for all items, but the selection was limited.
The new happy hour offers food items from $3 up to $8. Some food lovers might not agree with happy hour prices as high as $8. I appreciate that I can eat good food for a decent price and a serving portion that is just right. The variety of items is much larger, in addition one or two specials are offered as well.
Basta's can be crowded but the price-value-service is something you cannot beat.
09-Sep-08Bastas just updated their Happy Hour menu and the food plate specials are available from open to close! This place rocks! The best Happy Hour food in Portland, hands down. I agree with the other review...when this place gets too crowded (and it's only a matter of time), save a seat for me, please!
12-Feb-08I almost don't want to write this for fear they will become more popular, but Basta's is a secret gem. While other people cram into crowded bars closer, I always have HH at Basta's before seeing a movie at Cinema 21. The sparse menu may be slight, but is always consistent and top quality. If you love Italian wine, Basta's has the best Italian wine list, hands down. The house cocktails are fun and tasty. Unfortunately they have limited beer taps, but they always have a nice variety of local micro-brews.
