Deschutes is one of my fave bottle brews in Phoenix...so I was happy to visit the brewpub and sample their other selections. The fresh-hopped Mirror Pond was fantastic! The Jubelale (winter seasonal) was also enjoyable. The server was knowledgable about the beers and friendly. I loved the atmosphere - they did a great job transforming an auto garage into a great pub...the dining area is nearly surrounded by windows which gave it a light and bright ambience. The food did not disappoint either. Will definitely be back!!

It didn't seem corporate to me, but it did seem austere and Pearl-y. The bathrooms were pretty neat. Service was indifferent--but it was friday night at midnight so they were probably just tired.

I made a visit tonight to the new Deschutes brew pub in the Pearl District. I must say that I was far from impressed.

First, there was about a 45 minute wait for a table, followed by a 30 minute wait for food. The food was B- at best. Definitely your typical pub grub. However, their root beer was pretty decent.

The the entire place had a corporate feel, kind of like an Applebee's or Rock Bottom Brewery. They even handed out the vibrating notifiers for people who where waiting for tables. Worst of all, they have merchandise hanging all over the place...very lame.

I think I'll stick with Amnesia and Lucky Lab for the real deal.

Deschutes is one of the few large scale brewers in Oregon that hasn't sold out to one of the larger domestic brands. I'm pretty excited about the idea of Deschutes adding a brew pub in the Pearl District within walking distance of my apartment. I will be sure to update the happy hour info as soon as they open their doors for business.
